Though he's established himself as one of the more dominant bigs in today's NBA, Sixers center Joel Embiid had several off-the-court dreams as a youngster growing up in Cameroon.

In a wide-ranging interview with Clay Skipper of GQ, Embiid noted that he had dreams of becoming an astronaut or president.

“[In] Cameroon, we don’t know shit about space,” Embiid said during his interview with GQ. “I don’t even know if there’s a Cameroonian astronaut. That’s what I wanted to become. I wanted to become president, and I wanted to become an astronaut. Because I was really good at math.”

Just for the record, there is a man from Cameroon who served as an astronaut: Patrick Baudry (retired Lieutenant Colonel in the French Air Force and former CNES astronaut). Baubry, a French national who was born in Cameroon, has over seven days of time logged in space.

Embiid, now 24 years of age, wasn't able to become president (or an astronaut), but he has managed to carve a niche in the NBA. In fact, his name is often mentioned among the league's top centers — for good reason.

In his 63 appearances with the Sixers during their 2017-18 regular season campaign, Embiid racked up averages of 22.9 points on 48.3 percent shooting from the field (30.8 percent from beyond the arc), 11.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.8 blocks in 30.3 minutes per outing.

Embiid's game continues to improve with each passing year. In the three games he's played this season, the true seven-footer has averaged 28.3 points on 50.8 percent shooting (33.3 percent from downtown), 10.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.0 blocks in 34.3 minutes.

Embiid and the Sixers will be back in action on Tuesday night, when they'll travel to Detroit for a match-up against the Pistons. Tip-off inside Little Caesars Arena is set for 7:00 p.m. EST with NBATV having live broadcast coverage.
