Sixers star Joel Embiid will make his return to the lineup on Wednesday against the Detroit Pistons.

Embiid has been out due to a shoulder injury:

Embiid is averaging 23.3 points, 11.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists on the season. He’s shooting 47.2 percent from the field, 34.2 percent from beyond the arc and 81.4 percent from the free-throw line.

Sixers fans were relieved Embiid’s injury wasn’t a long-term issue given the team’s piling injuries. Another surgery for the All-Star big man would have been a huge buzzkill.

There will be a lot of pressure on Philly once the playoffs start. Most pundits around the league expect the Sixers to trade either Ben Simmons or Embiid after the season ends if the team doesn’t go on a deep playoff run.

Since both players do their damage in the post, the Sixers have a shortage of floor spacing when Embiid and Simmons are on the court together.

Philly has lost in the second round of the playoffs the last two seasons, so head coach Brett Brown could possibly lose his job as well if they falter early in the postseason again.

The Sixers are an elite team at home and a below-average team on the road. They are an incredible 28-2 at home and 10-24 on the road. If they want to win the title, Embiid, Simmons and Co. need to figure out their road woes sooner rather than later.
