For the second-straight season, Joel Embiid finds himself dead center in the MVP discussion. After falling just short last year to Nikola Jokic, the All-Star center elevated his game to new heights while leading the charge for the Sixers.

Since returning to the lineup from health and safety protocols back in January, Embiid has been on a dominant tear. Currently, he is set to post career-highs in points (29.8), assists (4.3), and steals (1.1) per game.

Friday night, the Sixers continued their west coast swing with a matchup against the Los Angeles Clippers. Even with shots he typically makes not falling, Embiid still managed to post 27 points and ten rebounds en route to a blowout win for the Sixers.

Despite this being a somewhat quiet night for Philly's franchise cornerstone, the LA crowd still showed appreciation to one of the game's top talents. Throughout multiple points of the game, Embiid was showered with MVP chants.

After the game, Embiid spoke about the warm reception he received in an away arena. He appreciated the MVP chants but admitted his sights are set much higher.

“It's a blessing. I haven't won one. It feels like I'm close. I am just really focused on finishing the season strong and making sure that we go into the playoffs with the right mindset. But it is always appreciated. It is a blessing, and I love it. But that is not really my focus,” Embiid said.

As we hit this final stretch of the regular season, Embiid has a few more opportunities to cement his MVP campaign. Between the increase in production and the Sixers sitting near the top of the Eastern Conference, Embiid has a chance to bring home the hardware that alluded him last year.

He is also on pace to play his most games in a season ever. Many feel if not for missed time last season Embiid would have been named MVP over Jokic.

Since his career began, Embiid has been on a hunt for greatness. He wants his name to be alongside the game's best when his career is over. To do that, Embiid is fully aware racking up awards and championships is a must.

While winning MVP is certainly on his radar, bringing home a title to the city of Philadelphia remains his top priority.
