New Orleans Pelicans shooting guard Jrue Holiday told a funny story about his early playing days during a podcast appearance in the The JJ Redick Podcast, noting an embarrassing condoms story that was part of his rookie hazing with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Originally drafted by the Sixers, Holiday was once hazed and tasked with doing anything the veterans of the team asked him to do, including being in charge of providing condoms for the team.

Trancript via Enrico Campitelli of NBC Sports Philadelphia:

“I was a pansy,” said Holiday. “I did everything Elton Brand told me to do. Willie Green told me to do. Andre Iguodala told me to do. Whatever they told me to do, I was doing it, four o'clock in the morning I was doing it.”

“Rubber runs?” Redick asked.

“Oh yeah, gold cards, the Magnums,” Holiday replied.

“For those of us who are unclear what we're talking about,” Redick noted. “We're talking about condoms.”

“Protection.”

Holiday didn't solely have to go about finding Magnums at crazy hours of the night. He was also responsible for carrying a bag loaded with them in every road trip with the Sixers.

“Back in the day they had the [NBPA health professional] lady that came and talked to us,” said Holiday. “They gave us this big bag, huge bag, of like 150 condoms. It was the rookie's responsibility to bring that bag on every road trip. Think of the conversation you have, let's say you have a girl and it's like, ‘Alright, why do you have a million condoms in your backpack? You look suspicious.'”

It must have been an awkward time for Holiday, but the good news is that you can only be a rookie for one year — unless you're Ben Simmons.

The hazing would eventually end and Holiday now has some fond and not-so-fond memories to talk about when remembering his first year in the league.
