The Philadelphia 76ers are coming off a season where they finished as the top seed in the Eastern Conference. And yet because of all the controversy surrounding Ben Simmons, their offseason has been nothing but an endless wave of trade rumors

The Sixers just locked up franchise player Joel Embiid for the long haul to the tune of a $196 million extension. But there are still a handful of questions about where the franchise is headed in the immediate future – championship or overhaul?

76ers icon Julius Erving told the honest truth on how the fanbase, and apparently its former players, have felt about the franchise.

Via CBS Sports Nothing Personal with David Samson:

“I think the Sixers have been a source of frustration — in playing Atlanta this year I think they were the favorite team and Atlanta just like surprised us.. So it's been a long drought in Philadelphia, our fans are eagerly awaiting for the team to get over the top.”

While he acknowledges that the team is going through internal turmoil, he doesn't seem opposed to keeping Ben Simmons for another, or at the very least isn't as pessimistic about the idea.

There's a lot of controversy with the Ben Simmons situation, but it seems like the team is staying pat with their big three of Joel [Embiid], Ben [Simmons] and Tobias [Harris]. I think if they add pieces, get another year in with Doc Rivers, because you know last year was his first year on the job with the Sixers. Sometimes you need time with people to really know how to bring out the best in them.”

Sixers fans can only hope the team can pull it together – whether or not Ben Simmons stays on the roster.
