After the Philadelphia 76ers beat the Miami Heat for the second straight game since Joel Embiid's returned, Kendrick Perkins reiterated his belief that the Sixers center is the true MVP of the league.

Perkins has never been shy about publicly declaring that he voted for Embiid as MVP, and on Sunday, he doubled down on that and revealed why he gave Embiid the edge over Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic.

For Big Perk, his reason is quite simple: Embiid dominates the eye test. His impact on the Sixers is clear, and it doesn't take a genius to see how he helps his team win games. While he did admit Jokic has the stats to back up his MVP bid, it's just too hard to ignore the Cameroonian center.

As the popular expression goes, to each his own.

There is really no criteria for MVP, and so every voter has their own set of considerations when making their choice. Some people go with narratives, while some put more emphasis on stats. As for Kendrick Perkins, he trusts more on what he sees on the floor more than the numbers.

To be fair, Joel Embiid certainly deserves to win MVP as much as Jokic. He carried the Sixers alone for the most part of the 2021-22 season, and he did so amid all those distractions stemming from the Ben Simmons saga. He has also been really dominant, stablishing himself as an unstoppable offensive and defensive force.
