Nike congratulated Ben Simmons on his Rookie of the Year award while possibly taking a jab Donovan Mitchell at the same time.

Below is the tweet:

To recall, Mitchell himself took jabs at Simmons during the playoffs on two occasions. First, he donned a black hoodie with a definition of a rookie, and second, this time he wore a red hoodie with “Rookie?” printed in front.

Apart from Mitchell, Simmons has been host to a lot of criticism from basketball fans. NBA rules deem that he's a rookie since he did not play in a single game in his first year. Some fans, however, begged to differ.

On receiving the award, Simmons thanked his family and the city of Philadelphia for the support. Per ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk, Simmons said:

“I'd like to thank my family to start out with … family, friends, you know I wouldn't be here without them,” Simmons said in his acceptance speech. “My teammates of course and my great coach, and the city of Philadelphia for really embracing me and my family, so thank you.”

Simmons also acknowledged Mitchell and Jayson Tatum in his speech, noting how the little feud between him and Mitchell was hyped up:

“For me, I am obviously happy that I won the award,” Simmons said. “I try not to let the media hype things up or fans … That doesn't take anything away from Jayson or Donovan from having an excellent season.”
