The Philadelphia 76ers have had a breakout season this year. Number one overall pick Markelle Fultz has added more firepower to the lineup, but he's come in and taken over T.J. McConnell's spot in the rotation.

As reported by Sarah Todd of Philly.com, Sixers head coach Brett Brown has a dilemma regarding the playing times of Fultz and McConnell.

In achieving their 50th win of the season, Fultz played over 21 minutes while McConnell, who has been averaging over 22 minutes a game, just logged in 2:24 minutes – a career-low.

Brown noted that he wanted to test Fultz and admitted that it was at the expense of McConnell:

“I want to test Markelle Fultz,” coach Brett Brown said of his choice to hold off on playing McConnell. “And if I give him more minutes, it’s going to come at the expense of T.J. — and it did.”

McConnell was well-aware of the experiment and the fact that he sat on the bench for a long time, perhaps longer than he expected. Despite this, he acknowledged the talent that Fultz has, saying that the rookie has to be out there helping the team.

“I can’t think about stuff like that,” McConnell said. “Markelle is a special player and he deserves to be out there. I just have to continue to stay ready and be a professional to the best of my abilities.”

Whether or not Brown decides to play McConnell or Fultz, time can only tell. McConnell has been a steady part of the Sixers' rotation. His prized asset is his experience. Fultz, on the other hand, has shown why he was the first overall pick. He is definitely a special talent.
