NBA teams are looking to fill out their training camp rosters in the next couple days and the Philadelphia Sixers are doing just that with Emeka Okafor. According to Kyle Neubeck of the Philly Voice, the Sixers are bringing in the former second overall pick on a training camp contract.

Okafor's return to the league came in unorthodox fashion. After disappearing for years due to injury, Okafor resurfaced in 2017 with the Sixers in the preseason. He wasn't signed for the regular season but he ended up playing for the Delaware 87ers in the G League. It's not often that a former second overall pick in the draft is relegated to the G League in order to prove himself.

Okafor, 35, is well past his prime but he has a legitimate shot at making the team as the Sixers are particularly light at center after Joel Embiid. Okafor made his return to the league last year after a four-year hiatus. He spent 22 games with the New Orleans Pelicans and contributed as a depth big. He averaged 4.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks in 13.6 minutes per game with the Pelicans.

Embiid's health is still a question mark. Okafor isn't the best contingency plan if Embiid is sidelined for any amount of time, but he can serve as a second-unit big man behind a healthy Embiid.

But Okafor persevered and was eventually signed by the Pelicans. Now the center gets another chance to prove his worth to Philly. Of course, Okafor isn't the same player he was in his 20s, but the 35-year-old's experience could help a young Sixers squad.
