The Philadelphia 76ers are once again aiming to land sharpshooter and fan favorite Kyle Korver after striking out on bringing him back to Philly and losing out on JJ Redick in free agency.
The Sixers had explored re-acquiring Korver, who played the first four and a half seasons in The City of Brotherly Love, twice before, according to Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer:
The team had discussions about trading Jerryd Bayless to the Cavaliers for Korver last summer. They were also interested in acquiring him again before Cleveland traded him to Utah Jazz on Nov. 29.
Getting him would enable the Sixers to bring back a fan favorite who's one of the league's top three-point shooters. Even at 38, he would be an adequate replacement from JJ Redick, who signed with the New Orleans Pelicans in free agency.
Korver was recently waived by the Phoenix Suns, and now teams like the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Sixers seem to be among the leaders to warrant his services.
The Bucks could use a source of sharpshooting after the departures of Malcolm Brogdon to the Indiana Pacers and Nikola Mirotic to Barcelona, while the Lakers are looking to use recruiter-in-chief LeBron James to lure the marksman to a collection of free agents who have recently joined the team.
The Sixers, however, could offer the 38-year-old the chance to lace them up for the team that traded for him on draft day, closing the basketball chapter of his career with the team he started it all with, along with the chance to make a deep playoff run.
