The Philadelphia 76ers just went all-in on the face of their franchise Joel Embiid, locking him up to a massive four-year, $196 million extension that keeps him locked down until the 2026-27 season.

There's no argument that Joel Embiid isn't worth every penny. The Cameroonian finished as the 1st runner-up for the Most Valuable Player award and was an absolute force throughout the season. But while the Sixers bet large on their on-court talent, they reportedly cut costs off of it.

According to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Sixers have let go of 17 employees, including half of their scouting department. Among the names were scouting coordinator Christian Endrigian, Delaware Blue Coats GM Matt Lilly, and longtime scouts Rod Baker and Jordan Cohn.

The cuts include the team's senior director of equipment operations, Scott Rego, who was reportedly told the news over the phone. Rego had worked his entire life with the Sixers and was in his 34th year with the franchise after first getting a job as an assistant equipment manager. He had also cultivated a close personal relationship with Joel Embiid

The Sixers were rumored to already be in a transitioning phase, with a slew of internal changes within the past few months.
