Despite the reported heated meeting which took place between Jimmy Butler and Sixers head coach Brett Brown in Portland where Butler challenged Brown about how he was using him on offense, the Philadelphia 76ers still hope to re-sign the All-Star swingman over the summer, according to Zach Lowe of ESPN.

Butler can become an unrestricted free agent after this season ends if he declines his 2019-20 player option with the Sixers.

Philly has played really good basketball since they acquired Butler from the Minnesota Timberwolves, but after the report came out about Butler and Brown's tenuous conversation, questions around the league emerged as to Butler's long-term fit with the organization.

The Sixers went into the Butler experience with eyes wide open, and still hope to re-sign him this summer, sources say

Jimmy Butler had issues in Chicago and Minnesota. The Sixers took a huge risk trading for him knowing his history, but Butler's production on the court is so elite that it was a gamble worth taking.

The four-time All-Star will command a max contract in free agency. Butler has played in 23 games with Philly and is averaging 18.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.2 assists while shooting 47.0 percent from the field, 38.6 percent from beyond the arc and 86.2 percent from the free-throw line.
