Philadelphia 76ers forward Richaun Holmes is out for the remainder of October after sustaining a wrist injury in their preseason game against the Boston Celtics.

The Sixers provided the update on their website, citing that the 23-year-old big man “has been diagnosed with a non-displaced fracture in the radial bone of his left wrist.”

According to the organization, they will re-evaluate Holmes after three weeks, which means he will at least miss their seven regular season games this month.

Sixers head coach Brett Brown, meanwhile, expressed his disappointment on the news of Holmes' injury, especially after the work that the third-year player put in this summer.

“Just disappointment for him,” Brown said, per Sarah Todd of Philly.com. “He’s really invested time over the summer and he’s come back in tremendous shape. I thought that he was playing very well.”

Richaun Holmes' absence is quite a blow for the Sixers, especially with starting center Joel Embiid not yet cleared to play. Holmes proved to be a capable backup center last season, averaging 9.8 points and 5.5 rebounds in 57 games.

He even started in their first preseason game against the Memphis Grizzlies, during which he notched nine points to go along with three rebounds and three blocks in 17 minutes.

With Holmes out, the Sixers will now rely on Jahlil Okafor, Amir Johnson, and Emeka Okafor to fill his void. Though, coach Brown also suggested he might opt to start the still-resting Dario Saric.
