Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle isn’t one to hide his appreciation of the Philadelphia 76ers’ young guns.

Even after his team took a 112-110 loss at the hands of the 76ers Saturday night, Carlisle had some uplifting words for Ben Simmons, whom he said is playing way ahead of his age. When talking about 76ers center Joel Embiid, however, Carlisle’s tone shifted to that of someone who just woke up from a nightmare.

Embiid, like Simmons, plays with the type of athleticism and mobility that do not usually come with people with the same frames as theirs. Simmons is 6-foot-10 and yet plays the point guard position, while Embiid is a 7-foot beast who has a nice blend of brute and finesse.

Carlisle saw his team get torched for 23 points by Embiid, who had a field day dominating his matchup with Dallas big man and former 76ers teammate Nerlens Noel. Embiid saw this would happen before the game even started, telling Noel prior to the showdown that he’s going to “cook” him.

As it turned out, Embiid didn’t just cook Noel and the Mavericks. He burned them to a crisp.
