The Philadelphia 76ers will sign veteran small forward Corey Brewer to a second 10-day contract on Friday, according to Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Corey Brewer signed his initial 10-day contract on Jan. 15.

Corey Brewer, 32, has appeared in three games with the Sixers. The 12-year veteran is averaging 7.7 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game while shooting 47.4 percent from the field, 60.0 percent from beyond the arc and 50.0 percent from the free-throw line.

Sixers starting small forward Jimmy Butler is dealing with a lingering wrist injury, so Philly is keeping Brewer on the roster because he's a great defender and can hit open shots from the perimeter. The reason the team isn't signing Brewer for the rest of the season is so that they can maintain roster flexibility heading into the Feb. 7 trade deadline and buyout season.

Philly is 32-17 on the season. They have the fourth-best record in the Eastern Conference and are playing some really good basketball right now. The Sixers have won two games in a row and will look to make it three straight on Saturday against the Denver Nuggets in the Mile High City.

Corey Brewer won the 2011 NBA championship with the Dallas Mavericks. He has career averages of 8.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.5 assists.
