As the 2021-22 NBA season has unfolded with the Philadelphia 76ers continuing to win without Ben Simmons, the prospects of a trade have become increasingly better…if you believe Sixers general manager Daryl Morey. Even though his word to the media has never really been good and his reasoning for leaking trade details is murky, today's words from Morey seem that Philadelphia has actually gained some traction towards a possible Simmons deal….or not? Morey claims the Sixers have lowered their standards on a Simmons deal due to Joel Embiid absolutely balling out this year, saying this when asked why they have lowered their ask for Simmons:

“Because Joel’s playing amazing… now we might be able to do it with a top-40 player who’s a great fit. I can tell you that for sure, there are deals with the Sacramento Kings that would work.” – Daryl Morey

But, at the same time, Morey also said all of this in the interview:

“If you trade one of these great players for multiple players, it does not change your championship odds enough to make a difference. For Joel, we have to make sure we get this right and that we move ourselves into a higher tier of ability to win the championship.” – Daryl Morey

That second quote certainly does not sound like a person that has lowered their wants in a possible trade. He contradicted himself in the same interview in a manner of minutes. That should be the first sign that what Morey is doing is posturing at best and at worst he could be breaking a cardinal NBA front office rule to not leak trade details to the media.
