The Philadephia 76ers have one of the most effective scouting systems in the league today. The fact that the Sixers built their current lineup from the ground up is testament to this fact.

According to reports, the 76ers are now looking at the possibility of adding a female member to their highly-effective scouting team. The report did not indicate a specific candidate, which begs the question: are the 76ers just looking to hire a female scout in order to promote gender equality in the sport?

The NBA is a masculine sport that is undeniably dominated by men. The league is in dire need of representatives from the opposite sex, but by eliminating male candidates altogether, will this ensure that the Sixers are able to employ the best person for the job?

This is not saying that there are no competent female scouts out there. In fact, it is almost certain that there are a number of outstanding female scouts that are better than their male counterparts. The sad reality is that the chauvinistic nature of the sport may have curtailed some opportunities for them.

Regardless of which path the 76ers end up taking, they can do very little wrong at the moment. Their scouting success rate of recent years has been outstanding. The club drafted Dario Saric (via trade), Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, and Markelle Fultz in the span of four years, and at least some credit has to go to their tireless scouts.
