The Philadelphia 76ers and guard Trey Burke have agreed to a one-year deal, per Adrian Wojnarowski.

Burke played last season for the Dallas Mavericks after he was traded midseason by the New York Knicks. Burke put together a solid season, averaging 10.9 points and 2.7 assists while shooting 35.2 percent from downtown.

Burke was a lottery pick in the 2013 draft, picked ninth overall by the Utah Jazz. Burke never lived up to his expectations in Utah, but still played a valuable role as a starter for a non-playoff team.

The Michigan product was then shipped off to Washington, where he had the worst year of his NBA career. Burke averaged only five points a game and got only 12 minutes of playing time on average, leading to his trade to the Knicks.

Now, Burke joins a team that is a legitimate contender for the first time in his career. The Sixers need the six-year veteran to step up and help Josh Richardson replace the three-point efficiency the team lost in JJ Reddick. If Burke can become a spot-up shooter, he will be utilized heavily in the revamped Sixers lineup.

Burke will probably share the backup role with Zhaire Smith, the Sixers up and coming, sophomore guard. Hopefully, the competition helps boost Burke to another level and he can be a productive player in Philadelphia.
