Maybe there is indeed a light at the end of the tunnel for the Philadelphia 76ers regarding the exhausting Ben Simmons saga.

After reports surfaced that Simmons suiting up for the City of Brotherly Love is slowly becoming more of a possibility after he reported to the team on Monday, ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski revealed a surprising update that even Sixers officials were caught unawares.

Sources: Sixers were unaware Simmons was flying into Philadelphia today. The organization was in constant contact with agent Rich Paul, but Simmons simply showed up at arena to take his COVID test prior to Sixers-(Brooklyn) Nets tip—and that's when team officials knew he was in town.

It was previously reported that Simmons would rather sit out the entire season than play for the Sixers after their relationship seemed to disintegrate after their forgettable performance in the last NBA Playoffs. It didn't help that Sixers fans also awarded the All-Star guard with a maelstrom of hate.

But based on the latest developments, the drama might reach a conclusion soon. It remains unclear how much Paul, an influential figure in the NBA these days, played a role in convincing Simmons to report to the Sixers.

The lefty playmaker previously shut off any form of communication with the squad and even rejected the plan of Joel Embiid and rest of his teammates to talk to him in Los Angeles.

With a few days left before the start of the season, it could be all's well that ends well for Simmons and the Sixers.
