Philadelphia 76ers president Daryl Morey approached Ben Simmons Wednsday and asked him about returning to play, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania. Simmons told Morey “he is not yet mentally ready to play and is continuing to seek professional help.”

There's no timetable for Simmons' return to game action.

The report claims “team officials have been supportive and have wanted to receive feedback from Simmons on his process.” The Sixers reportedly “have not requested specifics about Simmons' discussions with professionals.”

This comes after ESPN reported the Sixers were frustrated with Simmons for refusing to meet with team doctors to address his mental readiness to play. The three-time All-Star is working with mental health professionals via the NBPA while also working with Sixers team doctors for a back injury.

Simmons hasn't played for the Sixers yet this season after requesting a trade in the offseason. He did show up to practice with his teammates but got a suspension for “conduct detrimental to the team” after getting kicked out of practice. He's currently not playing in games or participating in full team activities, but he's doing some work in one-on-one scenarios.

Philly is still hoping Simmons' ultimate goal is to return to the team at some point, but there's uncertainty if he has any intention of doing that. Morey has held firm in trade talks, and they don't want to deal him just to deal him since he still has so much time left on his contract and is an All-Star player.

So, as of right now, nobody is budging. Simmons is in no rush to return and the Sixers aren't close to a trade. The standoff continues.
