The Philadelphia 76ers believe that Markelle Fultz will return to the team and regain his position in the Sixers rotation as a guard off the bench.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Markelle Fultz has not yet returned and will still seek further evaluations on his shoulder before playing. Despite this, however, the Sixers are hopeful that he will see action again for the team and regain his role.

“The Sixers (14-8) continue to expect that Fultz will return to the team and reclaim a role off the bench, sources said.”

Fultz's chance at reclaiming a starting role appear to be slim and none. With the addition of Jimmy Butler, there's a need to start someone who can stretch the floor and keep the defense honest. With Butler, Ben Simmons, and Joel Embiid, the Sixers need someone like J.J. Redick to spot up on the outside and knock down threes.

Although he doesn't appear to be in line for a starting role anytime soon, Fultz still possesses athleticism and can provide a spark off the bench. His shot remains a complete mystery, but it doesn't mean he can't be a decent option for head coach Brett Brown off the bench.

This report from Wojnarowski dispels some of the speculations that Philly is looking to move on from Fultz in the imminent future. Obviously, his situation is a complete nightmare and it's one of the most bizarre NBA storylines in recent memory. But that doesn't mean the Sixers are ready to give up on the first-overall pick from the 2017 draft.

At this point, we're conditioned to expect anything in regards to Fultz. That being said, a return to the bench this season seems like a probable scenario.
