Last summer, the Philadelphia 76ers briefly courted LeBron James, but James didn't really give the 76ers much thought before ultimately doing what everyone expected by signing with the Los Angeles Lakers.
But could the Sixers make another run at James this offseason?
While LeBron is under contract, some have wondered whether or not the dysfunctional Lakers could actually try to trade James, and a rival executive feels that Philadelphia could offer up Ben Simmons to Los Angeles in return for the four-time MVP, according to NBA insider Tom Haberstroh.
Of course, Los Angeles would actually have to be willing to trade James for any of this to occur, and there doesn't seem to be any indication that the Lakers plan on doing that.
One interesting thing to point out, however, is that LeBron does not have a no-trade clause, so if Los Angeles does, indeed, try and move the 34-year-old, there isn't much James can do even if he doesn't want to leave Hollywood.
Remember, though, that the Lakers have a lot of cap room this summer, so they can land at least one big name to put alongside of James this offseason. For example, Kyrie Irving and Kemba Walker have been mentioned as possibilities.
It would really a colossal failure on the Lakers' end to even consider trading James, but if it does reach that point, you can bet that the Sixers will be one of the first teams on the phone with Los Angeles.
It's just probably not all that likely.
