The playoffs signal the time of the year when NBA players turn into seemingly over-aggressive men. In Game 2 between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Miami Heat, Kelly Olynyk showed us a glimpse of this fact.

As posted by The Render, during a dead ball situation, Olynyk and Ben Simmons grazed each others' arms. It is not clear whether Simmons might have nudged him a bit. But as seen in the video below, Olynyk retaliated with a martial-arts-like elbow swing, which thankfully, did not hit Simmons.

Does Olynyk's action merit a fine? It did not hit Simmons but from the looks of it, Olynyk had bad intentions with that sharp elbow. It's a mystery whether Olynyk has a background in mixed martial arts. Maybe he does as he showed impeccable form with that elbow.

Or maybe he learned a thing or two from teammate James Johnson, who is a second-degree black belter. An old interview reveals that Johnson did not showcase his martial arts moves to his teammates when he was in Memphis. Per Danny Chau of Grantland, Johnson said:

“I have not demonstrated any moves to any Memphis players, because I already had them two see me do that,” Johnson said. “They’ve seen it live and with their own two eyes, so when I got here, everybody knew about it already”

Yet Johnson only spent a year in Memphis. Right now he's in his second year with Miami. There are no recorded clips that show Johnson turning the Heat training facility into a dojo. For now, we can simply imagine Johnson teaching Olynyk the tricks of the martial arts trade.
