The esports and gaming communities are at a loss for the sudden passing of John Finch. John Finch's death came as a surprise, as Hi-Rez Studios' CEO Stewart Chisam confirmed that John Finch has died at the age of 28. According to Chisam, the SMITE caster died on May 20, 2021, for currently undisclosed reasons.

As seen in Chisam's tweet, John Finch burst into the SMITE esports scene in 2017. “John's insightful game analysis, charismatic personality, strong work ethic, and multi-game versatility immediately helped him to stand out,” says Chisam.

Chisam announced that a couple of esports competitions in SMITE will be postponed to honor Finch's memory. “In honor of John and out of respect for our esports family, note that planned SMITE Pro League and SMITE Challenger Circuit matches for this week have been postponed.” Finch was among the lineup of casters for these competitions, and it's understandable as to why the SMITE Pro League has made this decision.

Chisam ended his tweet by asking the esports community to honor the caster's memory and to join in to pour tributes for the late caster's memory. “We ask that everyone give his family and loved ones space and time to grieve,” says Chisam. “As a company and as a gaming community, we will also find a meaningful way to honor his legacy and contribution.”

Other SMITE personalities also took the opportunity to share their tributes for Finch. They also ask for fans to give Finch's family and friends to process John Finch's death for the time being.
