American rapper Snoop Dogg was recently called over to participate in a card-pulling segment in collaboration with Whistle Sports. As a longtime Los Angeles Lakers fan, the California native couldn't believe his eyes when a gold chrome PSA 10 rookie card of the late Kobe Bryant was revealed to him by the host, DJ Skee.

According to Whistle Sports, the rookie card is worth well over $30,000 today. It features a young Kobe Bryant playing in his rookie campaign back in the 1996-97 season with the Lakers draped in gold chrome.

In card collecting, rookie cards may serve as the most valuable pieces in a collection, given that it was the first version to be released under a player's name. The prices of these rookie cards will then increase as a player's career progresses over the years.

Most of the current card collectors tend to bet their money on promising young players since their rookie cards are currently being sold at a relatively cheaper price as compared to the more established stars. In contrast, purchasing a rookie card of a Hall-of-Fame caliber player like Kobe Bryant several years after his retirement would already cost several thousand dollars today.

Considering Bryant's recent passing in January of 2020, the prices of his memorabilia, most especially his rookie cards are expected to skyrocket in the future. Purchasing a $30,000 rookie card may seem unthinkable to many but it certainly makes for an interesting piece of investment that is expected to pay its dividends, especially for huge Kobe Bryant fans in the years to come.
