Sega and Sonic Team has recently showcased many new Sonic-related announcements during their second annual Sonic Central live stream, which is a huge online celebration solely focused on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. The announcements included new content for previous Sonic games, revealed for future Sonic games, and even some new merchandise.

Sonic Central 2022 – Game-related announcements

  • Sonic Origins Trailer – A trailer for the Sonic Origins game was re-shown, which is a collection of remastered Sonic the Hedgehog classic titles including Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD. While the trailer shows off plenty of gameplay along with some animated shorts, it also shows off new features such as mirror mode and the Sonic museum.
  • Sonic the Hedgehog costumes for Fall Guys – Sonic the Hedgehog themed costumes for Sonic and Knuckles will become available in August for Fall Guys.
  • Chemical Plant World for Sonic Speed Simulator – Sonic Speed Simulator is an official Sonic the Hedgehog MMO game developed for Roblox where players can race, compete and unlock various Sonic the Hedgehog items in-game. A new zone based on the original Chemical Plant from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will now be available within Sonic Speed Simulator
  • New characters for Sonic mobile games – New characters for two mobile games, Sonic Forces and Sonic Dash, will now be available, such as characters from the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie, Mephiles the Dark, Super Shadow, and Sir Percival will be added to Sonic Forces, Sonic Dash, and Sonic Dash+ in the coming months.

Sonic Central 2022 – TV and Film-related announcements

  • Sonic Frontiers Prologue – An animated prologue based on the upcoming Sonic Frontiers game has been teased. While no details were given, it has been noted that it will be made available sometime before the release of the Sonic Frontiers game.
  • Sonic Prime Shadow Teaser – Some quick footage for the upcoming Sonic Prime series on Netflix was shown, briefly showcasing Shadow the Hedgehog running around on the screen. No other details on the show were given at this time.
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on Blu-Ray and Digital – Paramount Pictures announced that Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will soon be available on both Blu-ray and digital streaming. This home entertainment release will also feature deleted scenes, a blooper reel, behind-the-scenes clips, and a new animated short that takes place after the events of the movie. The release will be on August 9th, 2022.

  • New Sonic-themed merchandise – A ton of new merchandise featuring Sonic the hedgehog has been announced for the coming months. Neamedia is making new Sonic items, including ‘90s inspired statues of Sonic and statues of Amy Rose and Tails from F4F.  Moor Art is creating silkscreen prints with Sonic characters, as well. For outgoing people, HYPE will be creating a line of Sonic sports gear.
  • New Sonic-themed gaming accessories – A new Sonic wireless control and quick charging stand by the Razer company is now in production, along with EXG's new Sonic-themed Cable Guy controller holder.
  • New Sonic-themed consumables – A new Knuckles-themed energy drink by G Fuel is also in the works, as well as a Tails and Knuckles-themed PEZ candy dispenser.
  • Sonic Symphony Live  – The Sonic Symphony is a live orchestra that performs rock renditions of classic Sonic tunes. This will be held at the Brazil Games Show this October, along with a full world tour that will begin later at a later date.

Sonic Origins will release on June 23rd for Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, and the Epic Game Store.
