Idris Elba can really do it all. From being an evil super-soldier in Hobbes and Shaw to becoming the reluctant leader of The Suicide Squad. Now he's also taking on the role of Knuckles the Echidna on the upcoming sequel to 2020's Sonic the Hedgehog.

Elba recently confirmed this casting when he also shared a promotional photo of Knuckles' well… erm… knuckle sonon Twitter.

According to a leaked synopsis for the film, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will actually see Elba’s animated echidna join forces with Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik “in search for an emerald that has the power to both build and destroy civilizations.”

Knuckles is one Badass character and a fan favorite. So it seems fitting that an actor like Idris Elba who's just as badass gets to voice him in the upcoming film.

Elba will be joining Ben Schwartz, who voiced Sonic in the first film, as well as returning live-action actors James Marsden as Tom and Tika Sumpter as Maddie. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will also debut Miles “Tails” Prower.

Tails appeared in a post-credit scene in the first film, however, it’s not yet confirmed if Colleen O’Shaughnessey will voice the character. Colleen has voiced Tails in other Sonic games and media so it's still unsure if he’ll be recast with an actor with more name recognition.

Looks like the sequel will be pretty epic. All that's left is for Shadow the Hedgehog to make an appearance and it'll be a runner for the best video game movie of all time.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is set to hit theaters on April 8th, 2022.
