Dutch studio Nixxes Software has been acquired by Sony PlayStation. The PC ports of Crystal Dynamics games are some of their major releases. The latest Tomb Raider trilogy, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and Marvel's Avengers are just some of their past projects. They also helped Guerilla work on Killzone Shadow Fall in the past.

The Nixxes Software Aquisition

Playstation Studios head, Herman Hulst, announced the acquisition via Twitter:

In a press release, Hulst also said: “I highly respect Nixxes and am excited for this very experienced team to become part of the world-class development community at SIE, they have a passion for improving games and for delivering the best possible experience for gamers. Nixxes will be a strong asset for everyone across PlayStation Studios, helping our teams focus on their most important goal, which is to create unique PlayStation content at the best possible quality.”

Nixxes founder Jurjen Katsman then responded, “we can't wait to get to work and are so excited to bring our technical and development expertise to an IP powerhouse like PlayStation Studios. We're looking forward to working with some of the most talented teams in the industry to deliver the highest-quality gameplay experiences for PlayStation fans.”

Past Statements About PlayStation Games Coming to PC

Hulst mentioned the success of Horizon Zero Dawn's PC port on the official PlayStation blog yesterday. He also acknowledged the desire of players outside the PlayStation ecosystem to play Sony's exclusives. However, he did emphasize that the console will still be the best place to play their titles at launch. This means we can expect Sony exclusives to come to PC only after a substantial delay. Additionally, Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) CEO Jim Ryan also mentioned that they will be porting “a whole slate” of games to the PC in an interview with GQ earlier this year.

Uncharted 4 looks like it might just be one of the next games to make the jump. Sony reported a port for the game in a presentation during an investors' conference back in May. They also stated that they were working towards “a transformation from PlayStation’s current console-centric ecosystem to a future where large elements of our community extend beyond the console.”

The acquisition of Nixxes is a good indicator that we'll see more PlayStation exclusives get PC ports. Days Gone, Death Stranding, and Horizon Zero Dawn have already been ported. There have also been rumors about God of War and Ghost of Tsushima ports. However, those two being newer titles probably means we'll have to wait a bit longer. Who knows, maybe Sony will finally give FromSoftware fans their Bloodborne PC port one day.
