Sony readjusted the focus for its new San Diego-based studio. The California development team will be working to “expand upon existing franchises.” Sony made no announcement regarding which specific IP's the team will focus but this is welcome news for PlayStation fans.

A Thief's Rumors

The studio in question is completely different from San Diego Studio, the development team also under Sony. The older studio is in charge of MLB The Show games as well as some entries in the Little Big Planet franchise. The new studio is a yet-unnamed development team based in the city of San Diego.

The lack of official announcements contributes to the lack of reliable information regarding Sony's future plans. However, given Sony losing footing in the console wars, it's not at all unlikely that they'd be working to build up their best assets. Playstation needs to step up its game in order to survive this hard-hitting generation of consoles.

Coincidentally, rumors surrounding Naughtydog's continuing dealings with PlayStation could mean good news for the Uncharted franchise. Uncharted 4, the series' last main entry, launched in 2016, and the whole franchise was presumed to be over. Naughtydog went on to develop the sequel to its 2013 hit game The Last of Us, winning the Game of the Year award in 2020.

Hopefully, this marks the turning point for the PlayStation side. Take these conjectures and rumours with an open mind as we all have to wait for official word from Sony. PlayStation franchise games seldom disappoint fans so it's' not unreasonable to expect great things from Team Blue.
