The Oklahoma Sooners are reportedly targeting former college coach Kliff Kingsbury to replace Lincoln Riley as the head football coach.

It was announced earlier Sunday that Oklahoma head football coach Lincoln Riley was leaving the team. The proud university has their sights set on some big fish, and that apparently includes the Arizona Cardinals head coach.

Riley has been considered one of the more accomplished college coaches in recent years. He is 55-10 during his five seasons in Norman. The Sooners has ranked inside the top 10 in college football each year he has coached there and they have reached the College Football Playoff four times.

Riley is reportedly leaving Oklahoma for USC. That leaves OU in search of another head coach to lead the team.

Oklahoma is coming off a tough loss to in-state rival Oklahoma State Saturday. In the annual Bedlam game, with both teams sitting at 10-1, Riley and Oklahoma blew a nine point 4th quarter lead. But apparently Riley had been eyeing USC for its allure of Southern California and the ability to take a once proud program back to supremacy.

The Sooners appear to be looking for someone with both collegiate and NFL success. Kingsbury coached Texas Tech for six years from 2013 to 2018. He coached Patrick Mahomes and ran what was called the Air Raid offense.

In the NFL, Kliff Kingsbury is currently leading the Arizona Cardinals to the best record in the NFL. He once again has an athletic, accurate quarterback in Kyler Murray and leads one of the best offenses in the league. It's unknown whether or not Kingsbury has any interest in going back to the college ranks.
