It has been quite the whirlwind season for quarterback Spencer Rattler. The quarterback entered the 2021 campaign with the Oklahoma Sooners as one of the Heisman Trophy favorites, only to struggle and ultimately be benched by Lincoln Riley in favor of Caleb Williams. With Oklahoma's regular season now over and Riley off to USC, Rattler has announced that he's entering the transfer portal.

Rattler took to social media to announce his decision:

Rattler entered this season with Heisman Trophy expectations after a standout 2020 campaign in which he threw for 3,031 yards, 28 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Oklahoma won the Big 12 and then dominated Florida in the Cotton Bowl.

The youngster wasn't awful to start the season, but some major struggles against Texas in the Red River Showdown resulted in Riley turning to Williams. The freshman quarterback led the Sooners back to a victory and has since remained the starter.

With Williams in place as the starting quarterback and Riley gone, it only makes sense for Rattler to look for a fresh start somewhere else away from Oklahoma. The quarterback still has a ton of talent and would be a great get for a number of other programs.

For the 2021 season, Rattler has 1,483 yards passing, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions. Oklahoma will not be in the Big 12 Championship Game this season after losing a Bedlam thriller against Oklahoma State.

The Sooners are 10-2 this season and will play in a big-time bowl game even after failing to make the Big 12 Championship Game.
