One-time NBA champion Metta World Peace has talked about getting into coaching for a few years now. The former Los Angeles Lakers forward wanted to continue his playing career beyond last season, but it appears no teams came calling or he wasn't interested in the opportunities that were available.

Now it seems World Peace has decided to move on from his playing days for the time being as he has been hired by the Lakers G League affiliate, South Bay Lakers. World Peace has been brought on as a player development coach for South Bay, according to a press release sent out by the team on Monday.

Training camp for G League team gets underway on Oct. 24 with World Peace joining the likes of another former Laker and current South Bay head coach, Coby Karl. Other assistant coaches for the G League affiliate of the Lakers include Brian Walsh, Isaiah Fox, Dane Johnson and Sean Nolen.

With World Peace finally making the jump into coaching, it'll be interesting to see if he's ruled out playing in the NBA or overseas at some point this year or in the future. World Peace maintained that he wanted to reach the same milestone as his former teammate Kobe Bryant in terms of playing 20 years professionally.

The 2017-18 season begins on Nov. 4 for the South Bay Lakers as they take on the Santa Cruz Warriors at Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz, California.
