The web-slinging, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man definitely has a strong affinity with the PlayStation. Years before its release, Crystal Dynamics promised players that Spider-Man will join MARVEL's Avengers as a console exclusive for PlayStation owners. The time has come for this to happen. Spider-Man will arrive in MARVEL's Avengers on PlayStation on November 30, 2021. His arrival will coincide with a major update that will introduce a lot of new content to the game, including its first real end-game content, the Discordant Sound Raid. There will also be a unique new Hero Event available only for PlayStation owners revolving around Spidey.
Early impressions on Spider-Man's gameplay have been mixed. “He plays somewhat similar to a more nimble Black Panther,” says IGN, noting that playing as Spidey is fun in combat. However, the same cannot be said outside of battle. Insomniac's version of Spidey is the (fairly high) standard, and Crystal Dynamic's version simply can't pass the bar. “Spider-Man seems significantly slower to move around areas or in combat,” comments Polygon. “Everything in Marvel’s Avengers is a little sluggish, so this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, but for a hero known for his speed it’s a little jarring.”
