LA is sending Tony Gonsolin to the mound on Monday night, and Dave Roberts <a href="https://twitter.com/SportsNetLA/status/1655706895443963904" rel="noopener">revealed what he’s expecting</a> from the right-hander in his third start back from injury, per SportsNet LA on Twitter.</p><p>“With Tony, this is his third start, so we feel good where he’s at,” Roberts told Kirsten Watson prior to Monday’s game. “I think ideally if we can get him through six innings, six and 90 (pitches) is something. I think the strength is there, I think the velocity should tick up a little bit, see some more strikeouts I think today.”</p><p>Gonsolin began the 2023 regular season on the injured list after suffering an injury during spring training. Through two starts since returning to the Dodgers, Gonsolin has allowed only three earned runs over eight innings of work (3.38 ERA) while striking out four. His strikeouts are down, but that isn’t surprising given that he’s only a couple of starts into his season. As Roberts mentioned, that number will likely begin to increase soon.</p><p>The Dodgers are getting healthy and the results are speaking for themselves. Los Angeles is currently playing their best brand of baseball of the young ’23 campaign. After a lengthy spell on the injured list, the Los Angeles Dodgers plan to activate one of their strongest arms when they take on the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday.</p><p>Dodgers manager Dave Roberts <a href="https://twitter.com/juanctoribio/status/1650962517504454682" rel="noopener">confirmed the development</a> on Tuesday, sharing to reporters that Gonsolin will make his first start of the season as they continue their series with the Pirates, per Juan Toribio of MLB.com.</p><p>Sure enough, Gonsolin’s Wednesday return didn’t come much of a surprise after <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-tony-gonsolin-injury-return-wednesday" rel="noopener">Roberts said recently</a> that he’s the “best option” to start in the game. However, it’s worth noting that the 28-year-old right hander isn’t 100 percent healthy yet, with the team planning to cap him at four innings.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-tony-gonsolins-first-rehab-assignment-should-have-la-fans-excited" rel="noopener">Tony Gonsolin suffered</a> an ankle injury on March 6 and had been placed on the injured list since opening day. He did return to action in a rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City last week, during which he played in three-plus innings and struck out seven batters in the process–which is definitely an encouraging sign in his recovery from his latest ailment.</p><p>It remains to be seen how Gonsolin will perform in his return, especially after being away from the big league mound for more than a month. Whatever the case may be, though, the Dodgers and the fanbase will be happy to have one of their best pitchers back in the rotation. While one major caveat still remains in place, the Dodgers are <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-tony-gonsolins-first-rehab-assignment-should-have-la-fans-excited" rel="noopener">in line to see Gonsolin</a> in short order.</p><p>Gonsolin is <a href="https://twitter.com/FabianArdaya/status/1650178329830387713?s=20" rel="noopener">poised to start</a> on Wednesday, via Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. Manager Dave Roberts called Gonsolin the best option for the start. However, since Gonsolin is making his way back from injury, he wouldn’t go much longer than four innings.</p><p>Still, even if he just throws four innings, Gonsolin’s return will be a major boost for the Dodgers. Los Angeles has gotten off to a so-so 11-11 season. Once Gonsolin is back up to speed, the Dodgers should see the wins pour in.</p><p>That is, if Gonsolin’s 2022 wasn’t a fluke. The right-hander burst onto the scene in 2022, pitching to a 16-1 record with a 2.14 ERA and a 119/35 K/BB ratio. His wins, ERA and strikeouts were all career-bests. As were his 130.1 innings thrown. For his efforts, Gonsolin was named an All Star for the first time in his career.</p><p>His 2023 season hasn’t been as grand. Tony Gonsolin has yet to make a start as he battles back from a left ankle sprain. He looked mighty impressive in his April 20 rehab start, striking out seven over three innings.</p><p>The Dodgers now think Gonsolin is ready to return to the big league mound. Assuming he suffers no setbacks, he’ll be on track to start on Wednesday. Even if his start is abbreviated, Gonsolin will now have an opportunity to get back up to speed while Los Angeles gets one of their best pitchers back in their rotation.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Coco Montes, who walked to open the fourth inning against Gonsolin, was stranded.”</p><p>Overall, it was an encouraging start for Gonsolin, who impressed in his first competitive game action since Mar. 3. He also maxed out his fastball at 93 mph in the start.</p><p>Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said on Monday that the plan for Gonsolin was to get him through four innings in this game, and five more in another rehab start either next Tuesday or Wednesday, per Stephen.</p><p>If all goes well, Tony Gonsolin should join the Dodgers starting rotation in early May, possibly after just one more outing on the farm.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Gonsolin is now scheduled to make his first rehab start with AAA Oklahoma City on Thursday. He will throw four innings in that contest before making at least one more rehab start.</p><p>Gonsolin has been out all season with an ankle injury. Manager Dave Roberts originally stated that he expected the star pitcher to be out until May. While Gonsolin doesn’t have an exact timetable yet, he is at least ramping up for as quick of a return as possible.</p><p>Tony Gonsolin’s return will be a major boost for the Dodgers. He is coming off of the first All Star appearance of his career. In 2022, Gonsolin pitched to a 16-1 record with a 2.14 ERA and a 119/35 K/BB ratio. The wins, ERA and strikeouts were all career-bests for Gonsolin. And they came in a season where Gonsolin recorded his most appearances (24) and innings pitched (130.1).</p><p>The Dodgers will still have to wait a little while longer for Gonsolin to be pitching in Los Angeles. However, once he does, he’ll be looking to replicate last year’s success. Gonsolin’s rehab start on Thursday will give Dodgers fans their first taste of what to expect from the improving All Star in 2023.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
