In a short series, every game matters, and perhaps the last team in baseball that needs more help could get it in the form of the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-dustin-may-blake-treinens-mlb-playoff-availability-up-in-the-air-amid-injury-recoveries/">impending returns</a> of pitchers Dustin May and Blake Treinen.</p><p>Speaking with reporters before the start of the NLDS, manager Dave Roberts provided a positive injury update regarding May and Treinen. However, as per Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register, Roberts did not provide a clear-cut answer yet on whether or not they could make the Dodgers’ NLDS roster.</p><p><a href="https://twitter.com/billplunkettocr/status/1579603020165578752">Plunkett wrote</a>: “Blake Treinen and Dustin May are “healthy enough” to be available for NLDS but Dave Roberts says #Dodgers are still “talking through” final roster decisions.”</p><p>Blake Treinen had been one of the more lights-out relievers in the MLB in the past. The 34-year old was coming off an impressive 2021 when he pitched to the tune of a 1.99 ERA, 85 strikeouts and seven saves in 72.1 innings pitched (72 games). Unfortunately, injury problems essentially robbed him of a 2022 season. Treinen only pitched five innings total this season due to shoulder issues, none bigger than the partially torn capsule on his right shoulder.</p><p>Meanwhile, Dustin May made his return following Tommy John <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-dustin-may-gets-crucial-update-in-return-from-tommy-john-surgery/">surgery</a> back in August. He then proceeded to start six games, but it was clear he was still yet to find the groove he had in 2021 prior to going under the knife. He soon <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-la-makes-tough-decision-on-dustin-may-ahead-of-2022-mlb-playoffs/">landed</a> on the Injured List in late September due to back problems.</p><p>The Dodgers are still debating if keeping them out of the NLDS for them to come back even healthier in a potential NLCS is the wiser move, <a href="https://twitter.com/juanctoribio/status/1579603838776250368">according to Juan Toribio</a>.</p><p>“Dodgers manager Dave Roberts also said Blake Treinen and Dustin May are healthy heading into the NLDS. They’re still talking through roster decisions, but they’re discussing the possibility of keeping May off the roster and continue building him up for a potential NLCS,” Toribio wrote.</p><p>While players’ health should be of utmost priority, it’s a little confusing for the Dodgers to be thinking of the NLCS at this juncture. Nothing is guaranteed in the postseason, and the Dodgers, of all teams, should know this. Both pitchers are still working their way back from injuries.</p><p>For Dustin May, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts does not think that the starter will be ready for the start of the National League Division Series, per <a href="https://twitter.com/FabianArdaya/status/1577440977241145345" rel="noopener">Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic</a>. Blake Treinen, on the other hand, appears to have a slightly better chance than May to be ready to give it a go in the Dodgers’ first playoff game.</p><p>“Dave Roberts said Blake Treinen and Dustin May will face hitters tomorrow. Said Treinen is still a possibility to be ready in time for the NLDS roster. On May, Roberts said he isn’t a lock for the NLDS roster even if he shows he’s healthy this coming week.”</p><p>According to <a href="https://twitter.com/billplunkettocr/status/1577421082016903168" rel="noopener">Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register</a>, Treinen had a bullpen session on Monday and did not seem to have any issues after.</p><p>“Dodgers Blake Treinen said he pushed it as hard as he could in bullpen session yesterday. Shoulder feels fine today but will play catch to see for sure how he bounces back. Still focused on “giving myself a chance” to contribute in postseason”</p><p>In any case, the Dodgers are in form heading into the 2022 MLB postseason. Both players have not seen action since early September due to injuries, but Dodgers manager Dave Roberts believes that Treinen and Lux will be back in action before the end of the week and end of the month, respectively.</p><p>For Treinen, Roberts said that the pitcher will likely be activated just before the calendar shifts to October, per <a href="https://twitter.com/THEREAL_DV/status/1569840778402480130">David Vassegh AM 570 LA Sports</a>.  Treinen was placed by the Dodgers on the 15-day injured list because of a shoulder issue. He’s actually appeared in only five games with the Dodgers this season and only 11 total innings in total between appearances with the Dodgers and Triple-A.</p><p>Gavin Lux, on the other hand, is not on the injured list but is dealing with a nagging back issue that has already cost him two weeks’ worth of games with the Dodgers. However, he is on schedule to return to action on Friday against the San Francisco Giants on the road, per <a href="https://twitter.com/THEREAL_DV/status/1569840551524204547">Vassegh</a>. Lux has been the regular second baseman for the Dodgers, but while he’s out, that spot is being taken care of by Chris Taylor for the most part with Mookie Betts and Hansen Alberto seeing some time there, too.
