Game 5 was no different, as Houston went into the final inning holding a slim one-run lead against the white-hot Philly squad. They needed big plays from their defense to hold, and they got exactly that from Chas McCormick.</p><p>During that ninth inning, Phillies catcher JT Realmuto hit a deep flyball towards center field off Astros close Ryan Pressly. The ball seemed all but destined to bounce off the wall, putting the tying run on base with one out. They got a big boost to their pitching staff as they face their division rival in the form of Ryan Pressly.</p><p>The Astros reinstated Pressly, their closing pitcher, to the roster ahead of the home series. In 37.2 innings this season, he has a 3.11 ERA and 46 strikeouts. With a slider that occasionally touches 90 miles per hour and a solid fastball and curveball, he is a strong option out of the ‘pen.</p><p>The Astros are stacked in the pitching department with starters like Justin Verlander, Lance McCullers Jr., Cristian Javier, Framber Valdez and Jose Urquidy. Having guys out of the bullpen like Pressly and Ryne Stanek greatly helps, too. With Verlander currently dealing with a <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/i-dodged-a-bullet-here-astros-ace-justin-verlander-gets-brutally-honest-calf-injury/">calf injury</a>, Pressly’s return is very timely.</p><p>There are no concerns over the Astros losing their spot in the American League playoff picture and they have a strong, 11-game lead in the AL West. However, getting Ryan Pressly some innings before the postseason will be important. They recently surpassed the New York Yankees for the best record in the American League, which would afford them home field advantage through the AL playoffs. But on Thursday, they were dealt a tough blow as news surfaced that Astros closer Ryan Pressly has been placed on the 15-day injured list with neck spasms.</p><figure class="op-interactive"><blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p dir="ltr" lang="en">Ryan Pressly is headed to the IL with neck spasms. Seth Martinez is on his way.</p><p>— Julia Morales (@JuliaMorales) <a href="https://twitter.com/JuliaMorales/status/1562914001603928065?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">August 25, 2022</a></p></blockquote><p><script async="" src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script></p></figure><p>The Astros are calling up Seth Martinez to take his spot on the roster.</p><p>What is particularly troubling is that Pressly has already <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/astros-news-houston-gets-tough-blow-to-bullpen-with-ryan-pressly-injury/" rel="noopener">missed time earlier this year</a> with neck problems. Pressly missed three weeks from late April to early May. Upon his return, he immediately blew a save. After that though, the Astros closer would allow just two runs over his next 15 appearances.</p><p>Pressly is ninth in the major leagues with 25 saves this season. His ERA stands at 3.11, but that really doesn’t tell the story. Outside of a big blow up against the Yankees on June 23rd, he has allowed just four runs over 33 appearances. However, his last time he was seen in a game Pressly struggling, barely holding on for a save against the Braves Sunday.</p><p>It was previously reported that the Astros were not concerned and he would not need an IL stint. That obviously did not end up being the case. In his place, Rafael Montero is most likely to receive save opportunities. Montero had been dominant most of the year, but recently has <a href="https://www.espn.com/mlb/player/gamelog/_/id/32631/rafael-montero">also struggled.</a></p><p>So, it’s possible Dusty Baker uses a committee approach until Pressly returns. There is no timetable for that yet though.</p><p>Entering play Thursday, Houston is 3.5 games ahead of the Yankees.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

Moreover, that win completed their mission to avenge their embarrassing sweep at the hands of the same team not too long ago.</p><p>Astros closer Ryan Pressly certainly loved that the Astros were able to show their dominance at the expense of the Athletics, who shockingly swept them late last month in a three-game series at RingCentral Coliseum.</p><p>Via <a href="https://www.mlb.com/news/alex-bregman-astros-complete-sweep-of-a-s">Brian McTaggart of MLB.com</a>:</p><p>“You go and you get slapped around at their place a little bit, and it kind of humbles you and brings you back to reality,” Astros closer Ryan Pressly said. “Sometimes, you need that. You can’t take anything away. You have to give them credit. They’re good players. They get paid to hit and pitch, just like everybody else. Those guys are good and are having a bad year, but we wanted to come back and sweep them like they did to us.”</p><p>Houston’s offense came through big time for the team in the A’s series, as the Astros outscored Oakland in that three-game span 21-8.</p><p>The Astros are now on a four-game undefeated streak. Before they entered the latest series against the Athletics, they went 2-1 in their series opposite the Texas Rangers, also at home. Home plate umpire Vic Carapazza tossed him after he threw inside on a batter. Mind you, he did not even hit the batter. The umpiring crew came together after the pitch. After saying something to Pressly, the Astros closer had to be held back by his catcher as he was tossed from the game.</p><p>After the game, Pressly took issue with decision and the state of baseball as a whole. He threw me out for asking why he’s warning me… There was no one else getting warned that game,” Pressly said.</b></blockquote><p>It certainly appeared as though the Astros righty simply lost control of the pitch. Pressly walked a batter and was charged with a run over 2/3 of an inning. Rafael Montero would eventually close out the 7-4 win.</p><p>The Astros have been on fire this season, yet have done so while flying under the radar. After Sunday’s win over the Royals, they improved to 35-19. With all of the talk in the American League focused on the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/yankees-aaron-judge-enters-mickey-mantle-roger-maris-territory-with-unreal-feat/" rel="noopener">New York Yankees</a>, the Astros are only a few games behind them for best record in the AL.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>
