Deal is pending medicals.</p><p>— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) <a href="https://twitter.com/JeffPassan/status/1421181421046181888?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw" target="_blank">July 30, 2021</a></p></blockquote><p></p></figure><p>The Nationals fire sale continues after the Max Scherzer, Trea Turner <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/the-dodgers-won-the-max-scherzer-trea-turner-trade-heres-why/">trade</a> as they move on from two veterans that are having good 2021 seasons. This will notably open up a spot for Keibert Ruiz (the top prospect received in the Scherzer, Turner trade) at catcher for the Nationals.</p><p>The Athletics have struggled all year with their infield as they have veterans Jed Lowrie, Elvis Andrus, and occasionally Tony Kemp in their middle infield positions. While Kemp and Lowrie have each posted an OPS of over .700, Andrus has had an awful offensive season with a slash line of .232/.273/.309 for an OPS of .582.</p><p>By adding Josh Harrison to the team, the A’s will sure up their middle infield both defensively and offensively as Harrison has posted a slash line of <a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/h/harrijo05.shtml">.294/.366/.434 for an OPS of .800</a> on the season. Harrison also adds versatility as he can play second base, third base and the corner outfield positions.</p><p>Although the A’s have had success with Sean Murphy behind home plate this year, it never hurts to add catching talent to a contending roster. Yan Gomes is having a great 2021 season as he is putting up a slash line of .271/.323/.454 for an OPS of .778.
