Grove is fresh off his second rehab start which makes a return within the next week possible. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts recently commented on Grove’s potential return to the rotation, per Pasillas as well.</p><p>“With the off days, it’s going to be a little interesting because guys are going to get their rest,” Robert said. “But Michael (Grove) is in the mix. Michael is throwing the baseball well. We’ll see how it goes.”</p><p>It’s been an interesting season for Michael Grove. The Dodgers’ young right-hander found himself locked in a starting rotation battle with Ryan Pepiot in spring training. Pepiot ultimately won the fifth starting job in the rotation, but suffered an injury late in spring training which led to Grove getting the nod.</p><p>Grove didn’t perform all that well before going down with his injury. The 26-year old also appeared in just four games though, recording an 8.44 ERA and 1.75 WHIP during that span. Regardless, his return will be important for the Dodgers’ injury-plagued rotation. Julio Urias and Dustin May are both currently on the injured list, leaving Clayton Kershaw and Tony Gonsolin as the only reliable and proven arms in the rotation.</p><p>Noah Syndergaard is certainly proven, but calling him reliable right now <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-3-players-fans-already-fed-up-2023" rel="noopener">would be incorrect</a>. His early-season struggles for Los Angeles have been well-documented. Superstars like Freddie Freeman and Clayton Kershaw are performing at high levels for Los Angeles. Mookie Betts hasn’t played up to his typical MVP-caliber standards, but Los Angeles certainly remains confident in Betts. Injuries, however, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-julio-urias-hamstring-soreness-injury-rehab" rel="noopener">have negatively impacted</a> the Dodgers’ pitching rotation. That said, there are three players who fans are simply fed up with.</p><p>Some of these players have dealt with injury concerns, while others just haven’t performed well on the field. Injuries or not though, each one of the following players have underperformed in 2023. It should be noted that expectations are high in Los Angeles, so struggling while on the Dodgers tends to be amplified. With that being said, here are three Dodgers players that fans are already fed up with in 2023.</p><h2><b>Miguel Rojas</b></h2><p>This isn’t necessarily Miguel Rojas’ fault. He’s been exactly who the Dodgers thought he would be. Rojas isn’t producing on offense, hitting just .214 with a .507 OPS and no home runs, but his defense has been superb.</p><p>Following Corey Seager and Trea Turner at shortstop brings lofty expectations though. In all fairness, Rojas wasn’t even expected to be the Dodgers’ starting shortstop. For the most part, fans tend to understand this and give him the benefit of the doubt. That said, there are some fans who want to see a new starting shortstop for the Dodgers amid Rojas’ offensive shortcomings.</p><p>It should be noted that Chris Taylor and even Mookie Betts have seen reps at the position. Taylor hasn’t hit all that well either, but there is an <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-mookie-betts-shortstop-everyday-2023" rel="noopener">argument to be made</a> for making Betts the team’s everyday shortstop. The odds of that happening are slim though.</p><h2><b>Trayce Thompson</b></h2><p>Trayce Thompson has maintained a positive attitude despite his difficult 2023 season. He <a href="https://twitter.com/billplunkettocr/status/1662899628671475713" rel="noopener">recently broke out</a> of an 0-39 slump and offered a joke after the game, per Bill Plunkett.</p><p>“I was expecting a champagne toast like when Freddie hit 300 or when Kersh got his 200th win,” Thompson said of ending his slump.</p><p>Thompson has enjoyed a couple of big moments in 2023, but his numbers are lackluster without question. He’s currently slashing .147/.301/.368 with a .669 OPS. Dodgers fans have questioned whether or not Thompson should even remain with the team.</p><p>Los Angeles will be forced into making a difficult decision on Thompson if his struggles persist. The ball club had high hopes for him following his impressive 2022 campaign, but he hasn’t been able to replicate his success this year.</p><h2><b>Noah Syndergaard</b></h2><p>Finally, the reason why most readers are likely here, Noah Syndergaard has been the subject of criticism.</p><p>The Dodgers signed Syndergaard with the hope that he’d figure things out in Los Angeles. Syndergaard signed with LA since other veteran pitchers had previously gone to the Dodgers and completely revitalized their careers. In 2023 though, <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-noah-syndergaard-addresses-continued-struggles-for-los-angeles" rel="noopener">Syndergaard’s performance has been abysmal</a>.</p><p>Syndergaard owns a lowly 6.27 ERA and 1.35 WHIP this season. Additionally, he’s struck out just 33 hitters through 47.1 innings pitched. The concerning element is that Syndergaard has just 13 walks on the year. His control, at least in terms of throwing strikes, hasn’t been too problematic. In fact, <a href="https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/syndeno01.shtml" rel="noopener">his 3.4 percent walk rate</a> is the lowest of his career in seasons where he’s pitched at least 40 or more innings, per Baseball Reference.</p><p>The issue is his control inside the strike zone. He’s giving up too much hard contact and is leaving pitches over the middle of the plate. He isn’t fooling anyone right now and the results back that statement up.</p><p>His 39.8 hard-hit percentage is also the highest of his career in seasons where he’s thrown more than 40 innings. The same can be said for his 29.2 percent line drive rate.</p><p>The good news is that Syndergaard could still turn things around. If he’s able to effectively work outside of the zone, it could lead to more weak contact and swings-and-misses.</p><p>But Dodgers fans are understandably growing impatient with the former All-Star. Those struggles have led to Dave Roberts and the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-la-promotes-gavin-stone-options-alex-vesia" rel="noopener">Dodgers reconsidering Stone</a>‘s spot in the rotation.</p><p>Los Angeles is “reassessing” Stone’s <a href="https://twitter.com/FabianArdaya/status/1662896276139065344" rel="noopener">next turn in the rotation</a>, via Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic. If the <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-dodgers-fans-la-fans-holding-their-breath-after-latest-max-muncy-injury-update" rel="noopener">Dodgers were to skip</a> Stone’s start, Michael Grove would likely be activated off the injured list to pitch against the New York Yankees.</p><p>Stone has made two starts since his call up to the Dodgers. He holds a 10.13 ERA and a 2/7 K/BB ratio. His most recent start against the Atlanta Braves is a leading cause of Los Angeles’ concern. Stone lasted just four innings, allowing five earned runs off of five hits. He walked five batters compared to just one strike out.</p><p>Despite his performance on the mound, the Dodgers have actually gone on to win both of Stone’s starts. However, that doesn’t mean Los Angeles is impressed with what they’ve seen.</p><p>Still, Gavin Stone is the fourth-best prospect in the Dodgers organization and the 43rd-best prospect in all of baseball, via MLB Pipeline. He dominated the minor leagues in 2022, holding a 1.48 ERA and 168/44 K/BB ratio over 26 appearances.</p><p>Stone may still have plenty of potential, but he is running out of chances. Dave Roberts and company will come together to decide if Stone deserves another chance. If Los Angeles decides to give Stone another start, one more blowup could be his ticket right back to the minor leagues.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

As he was warming up in the bullpen prior to the ninth inning, however, he “locked up” his hip. Fairbanks had to limp off the bullpen and proceeded to the dugout to get checked. With Fairbanks hurt, manager Kevin Cash opted to stick with Jason Adam to finish the contest.</p><p>It is still uncertain if <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rays-news-pete-fairbanks-injured-list" rel="noopener">Fairbanks will have to be</a> placed on the 15-day injured list once again, but the 29-year-old himself said that he’s <a href="https://twitter.com/ByKristieAckert/status/1662896736380043265?s=20" rel="noopener">currently undergoing treatment</a>, per Kristie Ackert of Tampa Bay Times.</p><p>Kevin Cash also don’t have much update on Pete Fairbank’s hip issue, though they are preparing for the worst possible outcome.</p><p>“His hip locked up. I don’t have much more. Obviously, <a href="https://news.yahoo.com/rays-reliever-pete-fairbanks-injures-210700478.html" rel="noopener">we’re gonna go get him</a> checked out. (The trainer) just said that (his) muscles look to be okay, but we saw him walk very gingerly from the bullpen and he was in some pain. No real update from that point,” Cash shared, via Yahoo Sports.</p><p>When asked about the possibility of Fairbanks going to the IL, Cash said: “I think we should be OK. I mean, we’ll see what happens with Pete. I mean, if he’s an IL (injured list), then we’re going to get another pitcher.”</p><p>The Rays play the Chicago Cubs next starting Monday. Brandon Lowe’s throw to second was wide of the mark and went into left field, and Muncy tried to turn on his speed and run to second base.</p><p>He made it safely, but manager Dave Roberts and <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-clayton-kershaw-speaks-los-angeles-rays" rel="noopener">the Dodgers</a> trainer came out to look at him. Muncy stayed in the game at the time. He advanced to 3rd base on a long fly to center field and then scored on a sacrifice fly.</p><p>He did not appear to have any further incident, but he did not go out to the field in the bottom of the inning. Muncy is scheduled to have an MRI on his left hamstring.</p><p>Max Muncy was 1 for 2 in the game with a home run, and that gave him home runs in back-to-back games against Tampa Bay. He appeared to be coming out of a slump that had seen him go 5 for 37 in his previous games.</p><p>The Dodgers fell to the Rays 11-10, and they dropped 2 of the 3 games in the series. Los Angeles exploded for 4 home runs in the game that were slugged by J.D. Instead, LA won 6-5.</p><p>Glasnow <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/rays-news-tyler-glasnow-excited-2023-debut-dodgers" rel="noopener">was making his first start</a> of the year after previously battling an injury, and surrendered three earned runs over 4.1 innings pitched. While many pitchers fizzle out in their mid-30’s, the Dodgers’ left-hander is in the midst of another fantastic campaign. The news is obviously fairly concerning given that Urias is battling back from a hamstring injury, but he still is expected to throw a bullpen Tuesday.</p><p><a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-los-angeles-places-julio-urias-on-injured-list" rel="noopener">Urias was placed</a> on the 15-day IL with a hamstring strain following an inconsistent first portion of the 2023 season. The reigning NL ERA champion has struggled with command of the zone, often <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-dave-roberts-reveals-obvious-problem-for-julio-urias-in-struggles-vs-cardinals" rel="noopener">leaving pitches in hittable locations</a> this season.</p><p>Nevertheless, the Dodgers need Julio Urias to return soon. Dustin May is still dealing with an injury, while Walker Buehler will not return until September at the earliest. Noah Syndergaard has <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-noah-syndergaard-addresses-continued-struggles-for-los-angeles" rel="noopener">continued to struggle</a> for the Dodgers as well.</p><p>Ardaya also reported that Dodgers’ No. 2 overall prospect and top pitching prospect Bobby Miller will get at least one more start in the rotation. Miller impressed in his MLB debut, allowing just one run over five innings. If he pitches well again in his next outing, the Dodgers may consider making him a permanent part of their rotation in 2023. He features an immensely high-ceiling and could emerge as a breakout star for LA.</p><p>For now, Miller will focus on performing well in his second ever big league start.</p><p>It will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the Dodgers’ pitching staff. However, one player on their roster is continuing to underperform: Noah Syndergaard. After a solid season in Philly, Syndergaard signed with LA in the offseason. The hope was that Syndergaard was going to be a solid rotational arm for a team that is playing without their young ace.</p><p>Unfortunately, Syndergaard has been <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-noah-syndergaard-addresses-continued-struggles-for-los-angeles" rel="noopener">playing terribly all season long</a>. He currently has one of the worst ERAs of any starting pitcher, holding an abysmal 6.27 ERA in 51 innings pitched. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts called this “not ideal”… but <a href="https://twitter.com/FabianArdaya/status/1662282515296534528" rel="noopener">didn’t completely shut the door</a> on Noah Syndergaard starting again, per Fabian Ardaya.</p><p>“”It’s certainly not ideal,” Dave Roberts said of Noah Syndergaard’s 6.27 ERA through 10 starts. Said the Dodgers don’t have an immediate internal option available right now – “I think right now, we’ve got to continue to run him out there and expect better results.””</p><p>The Dodgers’ pitching staff (their rotation, in particular) is dealing an outbreak of the injury bug. Walker Buehler is yet to return from his injury in 2022. Clayton Kershaw and Julio Urias both had stints in the injury list. As of right now, the only surefire starters for LA are Kershaw (who has just returned from injury) and Gavin Stone.</p><p>There are many players that could potentially take Noah Syndergaard’s spot in the rotation. <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-bobby-miller-shines-light-will-smith-mlb-debut" rel="noopener">Bobby Miller’s hot start</a> against the loaded Atlanta squad proved that the Dodgers’ farm system can produce quality starters. He struck out three batters.</p><p>The right-hander got just eight swings and misses on 94 pitches in the contest, registering a CSW of just 23 percent.</p><p>He allowed at least one run in each of the first four innings, before settling down and pitching two scoreless frames before being replaced. It was the third time the veteran has given up at least six runs his season.</p><p>The Mansfield, TX native is really struggling to keep runs off the board, failing to rack up the strikeout numbers he did earlier in his career. He’ll have a few more chances to turn things around while Julio Urias, Michael Grove, Ryan Pepiot, Dustin May and Walker Buehler are all on the shelf.</p><p>Still, the leash is getting shorter and shorter for the Dodgers offseason signing.</p><p>“It’s certainly not ideal,” LA manager Dave Roberts said on Friday. “I think right now, we’ve got to continue to run him out there and expect better results.”</p><p>Overall, Noah Syndergaard is sporting a miserable 6.27 ERA and 1.35 WHIP on the campaign.</p><p>The way things are going, it’s hard to expect better results are coming for the former ace, who is tentatively scheduled to take the mound next on Wednesday night against the Washington Nationals.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

The Los Angeles Dodgers are beginning a weekend set with the Tampa Bay Rays, the first meeting between the two teams since the COVID era 2020 World Series.</p><p>That feels like a lifetime ago for the world, and to a lesser degree, the MLB. Restrictions and disagreements between players and owners resulted in a 60-game season with the champion being crowned at neutral Globe Life Field (Texas Rangers stadium). Roberts <a href="https://twitter.com/FabianArdaya/status/1662198973426270209" rel="noopener">reflected a bit</a> on just how different everything is two-and-a-half years later.</p><p>“The world’s certainly changed since the last time we’ve seen these guys,” the skipper told The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya Friday.<br></p><p>And yet, both the Dodgers (31-20) and Rays (37-15) remain powerhouses and two of the favorites to win their respective leagues. They keep producing top homegrown talent and survive major injuries due to their never-ending depth. Tampa’s lineup was riddled with questions going into the season and LA’s pitching staff is rife with <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/dodgers-news-bobby-miller-shines-light-will-smith-mlb-debut" rel="noopener">young call-ups</a> and fill-ins. None of that seems to really matter, though.</p><p>They already feel like postseason locks and it is not even June. But there is another thing that hasn’t changed, a rare yet crucial drawback both franchises have to overcome. Coming through on the big stage. Of course, the Dodgers won that 2020 Fall Classic, but if this Clayton Kershaw, Mookie Betts and now Freddie Freeman core just wins one “unconventional” title, that would objectively be considered a disappointment.</p><p>The Rays face similar pressure, despite remaining near the top of baseball with one of the lowest payrolls in the league. Their ability to navigate through all other issues is just too impressive to then give them a pass on not winning a championship. 2023 is another big opportunity for both to rise to the grand October occasion.</p><p>Their greatness will not be negated, regardless, given how difficult it is to be consistently successful in the modern game.
