The 6-foot-5 swingman went undrafted during the 2018 draft, later signing with the Nets after a summer league appearance.</p><p>The North Carolina native agreed to a two-way deal, spending most of his time with G League affiliate Long Island Nets and appearing in 18 total regular-season games with the big-league Nets during the 2018-19 season.</p><p>Pinson spent more time with the Nets this past season, making 33 appearances with only nine G League games played. With Brooklyn, he averaged 3.6 points and 1.7 assists in 11.1 minutes per game, shooting under 30.0 percent from the field.</p><p>Meanwhile, Allonzo Trier was originally a two-way player for the Knicks after going undrafted from the University of Arizona in the same draft class as Pinson. A fast start to his NBA career led Trier to signing a normal deal with New York early into his rookie season, including a team option for 2019-20. The ‘Bockers exercised it, but Trier’s sophomore campaign was marked with a long stretch of benching and getting excluded from the Knicks’ rotation of both head coach David Fizdale and Mike Miller.</p><p>Pinson was waived by the Nets on Tuesday and picked up by the Knicks on Friday as the NBA’s transaction window is open between June 23-30.</p><p>The Nets are among the 22 franchises invited to restart the season in Orlando, Florida. The former Golden State Warriors All-Star point guard ultimately <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/nba-trade-rumors-dangelo-russell-traded-to-timberwolves-for-andrew-wiggins-1st-round-pick-protected-2nd-rounder/" rel="noopener noreferrer">landed</a> with the Minnesota Timberwolves, but as it turns out, the Knicks were actually one of the front-runners for Russell’s services at one point.</p><p>According to a report by <a href="https://twitter.com/SNYtv/status/1252649062203109378">SNY’s Ian Begley</a>, the Knicks were willing to part ways with the trio of Bobby Portis, Allonzo Trier, and Frank Ntilikina in order to land Russell from the Dubs. It was not stated in the report why this particular deal did not push through, but it would probably be safe to assume that the fact that Russell is best friends with Wolves superstar Karl-Anthony Towns must have played a role in how things eventually played out.</p><p>For what it’s worth, Minnesota had to send Andrew Wiggins and a couple of future draft picks to the Warriors in order to land Russell, so you could say that in this respect, the Wolves may have outbid the Knicks with their offer. Among the trio of Portis, Ntilikina, and Trier, it is Ntilikina that holds the most promise. While he has reportedly been promised of the starting PG spot in free agency, it seems Fizdale still wants him to earn it.</p><p>Another point guard, Frank Ntilikina, was another option. He is coming off a strong showing at the 2019 FIBA World Cup and still figures into New York’s plans at the one, but there are questions regarding his offensive limitations and inability to shoot from outside.</p><p>Barrett actually has plenty of experience running an offense. He was frequently the point man at Duke, often dominating possessions at the offensive end. However, the NBA is vastly different from college ball.</p><p>Fizdale is entrusting Barrett with the keys to the offense, with Trier acting as a secondary ball handler and another playmaker in isolation. Morris provides some floor spacing, and both Portis and Randle will anchor the frontcourt.</p><p>The point guard spot is sure to be a topic of discussion all year long. The Knicks picked up team options on Smith and Ntilikina for the 2020-21 season, so their future in the Big Apple is secure. Nonetheless, Fizdale seems intent on instilling some fire and competitiveness in his team.</p><p>The Knicks face a tough task in San Antonio on Wednesday night.
