Might this particular deal hint at another transaction yet to come?</p><p>The Warriors had signed Wanamaker this past offseason after the former Pittsburgh star proved himself a valuable asset in Boston.</p><p>Wanamaker had been a nice bench playmaker for the C’s, averaging 6.9 points, 2.5 assists, and 2.0 rebounds in 71 games despite playing under 20 minutes per contest. He was especially reliable as a big and physical guard who could defend multiple positions.</p><p>But the 31-year-old simply wasn’t as effective in Golden State. Wanamaker was shooting a porous 35 percent from the field and just 21.3 percent from beyond the arc on 1.6 attempts per game. He was still a capable assist man but provided little value in Golden State’s backcourt.</p><p>The Hornets will likely plug Wanamaker in as a reserve guard who can soak up minutes in the absence of star rookie LaMelo Ball. Much of that time will be consumed by Terry Rozier and Devonte’ Graham, but Wanamaker has value in that he can play <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/sports/nba/charlotte-hornets/roster">either guard spot</a> while Ball heals.</p><p>Golden State winded up doing more selling than buying, though they barely did anything at all.</p><p>The Warriors had been rumored to be pursuing Philadelphia 76ers veteran swingman Danny Green, but it doesn’t look like the Dubs added much. However, a few experts are saying that this low-key signing might be one of the biggest moves the Dubs have pulled off this off season.</p><p>The Dubs’ offseason has been a rather busy one. There was a flurry of moves in the Warriors’ locker room, which was sparked by the huge news of Klay Thompson re-injuring himself with a season-ending Achilles tear.</p><p>Golden State then put on their hard hat and got to work by picking University of Memphis standout James Wiseman as their second overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. The team also quickly filled in the void in their shooting guard spot by adding a legitimate two-way player in Kelly Oubre Jr. from the Oklahoma City Thunder.</p><p>Even with these two big names leading the way, don’t be surprised if it’s Wanamaker’s addition which could possibly turn things around for the Warriors’ redemption this 2020-21.</p><blockquote>“I think Brad Wanamaker was definitely an underrated signing, just because the experience,” <a href="https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/warriors/brad-wanamaker-was-underrated-signing-warriors-dorell-wright-says" rel="noopener noreferrer">NBC Sports Bay Area analyst and former NBA player Dorell Wright</a> said on the “Dub Talk” podcast. “He’s a champion. He played on the same team I played on in Germany for a lot of years and won championships. Coming from the [Boston] Celtics and being coached by Brad [Stevens]. The thing I can take from his game is he’s always under control. He knows how to run the offense, he knows how to defend at a high level on the other end.”</blockquote><p>The 31-year-old Wanamaker is indeed bringing a ton of experience to the Bay Area, and that should be huge plus for the Warriors. Prior to his two-year stint with the Boston Celtics, the bulky point guard went around different leagues in Europe and claimed multiple MVP titles and championship trophies. Last year, he was a huge weapon off the bench for head coach Brad Stevens and gave the Celtics’ second unit some much-needed stability.</p><p>He’s now hoping to bring all these accolades with him to Golden State to round out a formidable supporting cast around Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins.</p><figure class="op-tracker"></figure></article>    </body></html>

He joined the Boston Celtics on a one-year contract in 2018, paving the way for him to carve out a role in Brad Stevens’ rotation and earning another one-year extension in 2019.</p><p>Averaging nearly 20 minutes a game during the past season, Wanamaker made a name for himself as a high-effort type player, whose defensive instincts and floor-spacing abilities proved vital to Boston’s depth along the perimeter. In 71 <a href="https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/wanambr01.html">games</a> during the season, Wanamaker averaged 6.9 points, 2.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 44.8 percent from the field and 36.3 percent from deep and 92.6 percent from the free-throw line.</p><p>With the Warriors, the University of Pittsburgh product will primarily serve as the backup to point guard Stephen Curry. He is also expected to provide wing depth for a franchise that is still <a href="https://clutchpoints.com/warriors-news-what-klay-thompson-injury-means-for-dubs-roster-plans-bob-myers/">reeling</a> from the loss of Klay Thompson.</p><p>The free-agent signing is the first of the offseason for the Warriors, though the team did also draft big man James Wiseman second overall in Tuesday’s NBA Draft. The team is still predicted to pursue other free agents to bolster their rotation.</p><p>As for the Celtics, Wanamaker is the third player that they have lost from the rotation last season. With Gordon Hayward receiving a lucrative contract with the Charlotte Hornets and Enes Kanter being traded to the Portland Trail Blazers, the franchise will look to retool with the extra cap space.
