Ennis went to high school at Ventura (CA) and then Long Beach State and was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks as the #50 pick in 2013. During his NBA career he also played 2 seasons with the Miami Heat, and 3 seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies, and 1 season with the New Orleans Pelicans, and 1 season with the Detroit Pistons, and 2 seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers and 1 season with the Houston Rockets.
