The NBA offseason is a time for players to enjoy more time with their families and their beds, and less around the stress that comes with being a professional basketball player, so when Danny Green saw San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich’s name on his ringing phone while trying to sleep, a scary thought came running through his mind:
“Am I being traded?”
Danny Green heard he was 2nd team all-D from Pop. When he saw Pop calling, he feared it was gonna be bc of a trade, answered half asleep

Gregg Popovich comes across as a type of person who wouldn’t dial someone’s number and have a chitchat about the latest updates on the Kardashians which is why it’s understandable for Green to have that reaction. The mental image of a scowling Popovich before Green picked up the phone must be haunting the Spurs guard to this day. That being said, we’re pretty sure that Green didn’t call Popovich a jerk for interrupting his sleep with a sudden call.
In all seriousness, the news of Danny Green’s election into the 2017 NBA All-Defensive Second Team must be an honor for Popovich to deliver to his player. At the same time, it’s another badge of honor for Popovich to have groomed another award-winning player; he also saw Kawhi Leonard named into the All-Defensive First Team this year.
