Tim Duncan has been out of the NBA for two years now, but he’s still out there playing and punishing basketball rims whenever he gets a chance. One opportunity came recently, when the now 42-year-old former San Antonio Spurs superstar returned to his native Virgin Islands and participated in a game at the UVI Sports and Fitness Center on Saturday.

Here’s a clip that shows Duncan running down the floor and punctuating a play with a good, old Statue of Liberty throwdown.

It’s really just a simple jam that wasn’t hard to do even for the elderly Duncan (sorry Timmy) given his length, but it’s beyond the point. The sight of Duncan still being a nimble and mobile big man who can finish the job on either end of the court surely filled everyone who witnessed the five-time NBA champion take off and throw one down in that game with immense nostalgia. It also reminded them how the Big Fundamental used to get things done in the NBA: without much flash but with impeccable efficiency.

Although it was just an exhibition contest, it was for a good cause, according to Rashidi Clenance of Sun Stroke Promotions, via Ernice Gilbert of Viconsortium.com.

The proceeds of the game will go towards the revival of the Hood Hoops Inter-neighborhood Youth Basketball League, which will be presented by Sun Stroke Promotions and the Virgin Islands Police Department.
