The San Antonio Spurs G-League affiliate, the Austin Spurs, will host open tryouts during Sep. 16 for $150 per player, holding only 150 spots for the event, according to Chris Reichert of The Step Back.

If this sounds familiar, it's because a former Spur by the name of Jonathon Simmons once made his way to the league by paying $150 to try out for the then-Austin Toros back in 2013. He earned a salary of $20,000 during his time there.

After playing in the American Basketball League and several stints overseas, Simmons was finally offered a two-year, $1.4 million deal with San Antonio, cashing in on his prior investment.

Simmons has reeled in even more money after becoming one of the best two-way free agents in the market after the Spurs rescinded their qualifying offer to keep him, ultimately letting him go to the Orlando Magic, who signed him to a three-year, $20 million contract.

While the 27-year-old has made a career out of his work ethic and dedication to the game, these open tryouts with the Austin Spurs can represent a potential ticket to the NBA for those willing to apply.

After all, there's nothing more comforting than betting on oneself.
