San Antonio Spurs guard Bryn Forbes admits he was surprised when his team announced that Tim Duncan was going back as an assistant coach.

In an interview with Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News, Forbes said that he did not expect that Duncan will join the team's cpaching staff. The 26-year-old added that the hiring of Duncan was the “shock of the summer” for him despite the huge numbers of wheeling and dealings this offseason.

“It's crazy,” Forbes said. “That was the last thing I was expecting.”

The 26-year-old guard did not hide his excitement as well, saying that he is very eager to learn from Duncan — unarguably the best player in franchise history. Even after Duncan retired in 2016, he was seen numerous times in Spurs practices. Forbes said that players loved his presence.

“Not everybody knows, but Timmy’s a great people person,” Forbes pointed out. “He’s great to talk to. He understands things from a player’s perspective. Everybody just enjoys his presence.”

Forbes is coming off the best season of his young NBA career. In 82 games last season, including 81 starts, the former Michigan State standout averaged 11.8 points on top of 2.9 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He also shot a career-high 45.6 percent from the field, including an impressive 42.6 clip from beyond the arc.
