During an ESPN interview with Rachel Nichols and Richard Jefferson, San Antonio Spurs legend David Robinson explained how helpful assistant coach Tim Duncan will be for the young players on San Antonio.

Duncan, the best player in Spurs franchise history, joined Gregg Popovich’s staff this summer. Robinson claims Duncan is going to provide leadership for San Antonio as an assistant coach and help the players on the roster learn what it takes to win on a consistent basis in the NBA.

Tim Duncan won five titles with the Spurs, two regular season MVP awards, two Finals MVPs, as well as the 1998 Rookie of the Year Award. The future Hall of Famer made the All-NBA and All-Defensive team 15 times during his legendary career. He was also a 15-time All-Star.

In 1,392 games with the Spurs, Duncan averaged 19.0 points, 10.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.2 blocks while shooting 50.6 percent from the field. He’s arguably the best forward in NBA history.

Duncan will be able to help LaMarcus Aldridge grow his game as a post player, even though Aldridge is a seven-time All-Star. Having Duncan around DeMar DeRozan, Dejounte Murray, Lonnie Walker, Derrick White, Rudy Gay and the other core players on the Spurs is also going to be beneficial for the team.

San Antonio lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 2019 playoffs in seven games. Now, the Spurs are adding one of the brightest minds in the game to their bench.
