The San Antonio Spurs will rest point guard Dejounte Murray on Friday against the Golden State Warriors.

The Spurs played on Thursday versus the Los Angeles Clippers, so the team is just being cautious with Murray, who is coming back from a right ACL tear after missing all of last season:

The Spurs lost their first game of the season to the hands of Kawhi Leonard and the Clippers. LA beat San Antonio by a final score of 103-97.

Murray played 23 minutes. He finished with eight points, seven rebounds and two assists. Overall on the season, the floor general is averaging 13.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists while shooting 52.6 percent from the field and 78.6 percent from the free-throw line.

The Spurs signed Murray to a four-year, $64 million extension before the season started. In a loaded Western Conference, San Antonio is eager to show it belongs at the top. As long as the Spurs have head coach Gregg Popovich, they will always be considered contenders since he’s one of the brightest basketball minds on the planet.

Murray has career averages of 6.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 123 games with the Spurs. He was the 29th overall pick in the 2016 draft out of Washington.
