The San Antonio Spurs were not able to go deep in this year’s NBA Playoffs, as they lasted just five games in the first round against the mighty Golden State Warriors. For Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich, that’s likely the last thing in his mind following the passing of his wife, Erin, back in April.

Since then, there have been barely any news about Gregg Popovich, a person who’s not really the type of person that wants to be in the headlines, especially if it’s about his personal life. But anyone who’s interested to know how the future Hall of Famer mentor is doing, Spurs point guard Gregg Popovich, Dejounte Murray has provided an encouraging update about the multi-titled head coach’s status.

Under Popovich, Dejounte Murray has blossomed into one of the most promising young talents in the NBA. Selected 29th overall in the 2016 NBA Draft by San Antonio, Murray has taken on a bigger role in his sophomore year in the league, as the Spurs are clearly grooming the former Washington Huskies star as their point guard of the future, the one who’s going to get the baton, if has not already, from Tony Parker.

After appearing in just 38 games and averaging only 3.4 points, 1.1 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 8.5 minutes in his rookie season, Murray saw his numbers rise in 2017-18, posting 8.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.9 assists in 21.5 minutes across 81 games played. Murray was also recently named into the All-NBA Defensive Second Team, an achievement that likely put a smile on Popovich’s face.
