The San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat face off on Wednesday, which means we get to see All-Stars DeMar DeRozan and Jimmy Butler go at one another.

DeRozan and Butler are close friends off the court, which makes their battles on the floor even more special.

“Me and Jimmy, we had countless battles being in the East together,” DeMar DeRozan said of the days when he played for the Toronto Raptors and Jimmy Butler starred for the Chicago Bulls, via the San Antonio Express News.

“We had so many classic games competing against each other. You want to be against a competitor like that. It brings out the best in each other. We have the ultimate respect for each other. Every time we go out there and play, it’s understood it’s going to be a battle, so that’s always fun.”

Overall on the season for the Spurs, DeRozan is averaging 22.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists in 38 games while shooting 53.5 percent from the field, 32.0 percent from beyond the arc and 82.7 percent from the free-throw line.

Butler, meanwhile, is averaging 20.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and 6.5 assists for the Heat. He’s shooting 44.7 percent from the field, 26.4 percent from beyond the arc and 82.8 percent from the free-throw line.

Both the Spurs and Heat are playing good basketball right now. It should be a fun game in South Beach on Wednesday.
