There isn't a choice for players in the NBA Draft when it comes to the destination of the team that selects them. For San Antonio Spurs guard DeMar DeRozan, he recalled an NSFW reaction that he had when he found out that he was selected by the Toronto Raptors.

In a joking tone, the main concern that DeRozan expressed with the situation was the fact that he had to move to ‘another f—ing country.' He wasn't used to being far away from home since he grew up in Compton and played his collegiate basketball at USC.

“I get drafted and go to another f—ing country,” DeRozan said, via Arun Srinivasan of Yahoo Sports.

“I didn’t even have a passport. You know what I mean?”

As someone who grew up in Southern California, it was a shock to DeRozan when it came to dealing with his first winter in Canada.

“I get to Toronto. Winter comes, I’m still wearing Chucks. I’m the only rookie on the team. So I’m just in the gym every single night,” he said.

While it may have not seemed like it would be at the time, DeRozan stated that getting drafted by the Raptors was the ‘best thing that happened for my career.' He became a genuine staple of the franchise and made his name as being one of the top mid-range scorers in the game.

DeRozan played nine seasons for the Raptors and totaled 13,296 points in 675 regular-season games. He is the all-time leading scorer in franchise history with Chris Bosh coming in second with a total of 10,275 points.
